Brooklyn and The Butcher

Brooklyn and The Butcher

Nestled in the heart of New Albany, Indiana, Brooklyn & The Butcher stands as a beacon of culinary innovation and historical allure. Established in 2016, this fine casual establishment has redefined the traditional steakhouse experience with a focus on exquisite dining and a touch of modernity. Notably, the restaurant’s ambiance is not merely limited to its sumptuous steaks and small plates; it also boasts a hidden gem, a speakeasy-style basement lounge that harks back to the glamour of the 1930s. Originally constructed as a hotel, the building housing Brooklyn & The Butcher exudes a unique charm that has been lovingly preserved. Its three-story brick walls and exposed fire escape evoke images of Brooklyn’s iconic architecture. Drawing inspiration from this connection, the name, “Brooklyn & The Butcher,” was born. While the reference to “The Butcher” emphasizes the commitment to top-quality cuts of beef, the omission of “steakhouse” in the logo signals a broader culinary vision. The true essence unfolds when you step into its inviting interior. Sleek, contemporary design elements harmonize seamlessly with historic references, creating a captivating atmosphere that pays homage to both old-world elegance and modern sophistication. The speakeasy lounge, concealed beneath the lobby bar, transports guests to an era of clandestine gatherings and live jazz performances. The culinary journey is an exploration of diverse flavors and textures. The menu showcases an array of cuts, from juicy filets to hand-cut ribeyes, satisfying every carnivore’s dream. However, it is the ever-evolving small plate menu that truly captures the essence of the restaurant. Seasonally rotated to highlight the best local ingredients, these dishes promise a delightful culinary adventure with each visit.

YouEEEEEEve got to eat here!! Wow we had the most incredible dinner the other night! Started with charred octopus and BarryEEEEEEs beef farm steak tartar. IEEEEEEve eaten at a Michelin star restaurant in Rome and MingEEEEEEs Octopus was better than theirs!! Continued with the Creekstone Ribeye and Sakura Farm Dry Aged Wagyu with sides of truffle fries and blistered long beans! Finished with Hazelnut Nutella Cake!

Laguna Salmon with Thai green curry sauce was amazing. Just enough kick and huge piece of salmon. Tomato and cucumber salad for the appetizer was awesome. Very good service and drinks.

I had the Smash burger topped with an overeasy egg, fries, coffee and a Mimosa. Everything was delicious, but the fries had too much finishing salt. I brushed it off and was able to eat 1/2 of the fries. Great service and atmosphere. Many delicious items on their menu.

We decided to have an early ValentineEEEEEEs Day dinner at Brooklyn and the butcher last weekend. It did not disappoint. The Crab Tagliatelle was absolutely delicious. I know it's fine dining but I wanted the casual/family style portion of this dish. My husband had the lamb meatballs. He said they were a little over cooked but the sauce made up for it. The Le Monsch drink is so popular and delicious that they have it on tap and I see why. The restaurant has a romantic aura. Our waiter brought out chocolate covered strawberries and it was the perfect treat at the end of a delicious meal. Next up...brunch

Chef inspired dinner. It was good. Would go back if we visited the area again. Nothing that really stood out from other high-end steak houses.

Went here for her birthday on a Wednesday night and it was very easy and fast to be seated. Our server Hannah was awesome , knowledgeable and made sure to check in often. We started with charcuterie board and lamb meatballs. The board was decent but not something I personally care for and the lamb meatballs were good but small. Not sure if worth the price to me. She ordered the Au Pivore and I got the ny strip medium cooked with a twice baked loaded potato and Mac and cheese. The main dishes were delicious. The ny strips we had were on par with most top steakhouses we visit and we enjoyed it. The twice baked potato was incredible and so were the whipped mash potatoes that came with her meal. Not a fan of the Mac and cheese. The house made lemonade was delicious and fresh and she enjoyed a couple glasses of moscato which she thought was good and smooth. The atmosphere is kid back and I like how it looks like a Victorian home renovated into a high class steakhouse . I recommend trying this place . We spent $194 on two appetizers , her meal and my meal plus drinks ( not including tip)

Had dinner with my adult daughter after too may years of not. First time at the restaurant (daughter lives in Louisville, she picked it). Food was ridiculously good; every bite. Salads, shrimp cocktail (cocktail sauce phenomenal and ASK for the HORSEradish sauce!!), lump crab, steaks cooked to perfection, red mashed and mac/cheese delightful. Dessert was decadent. Ambience perfect for a long chat meal and the waitstaff of Alex (training) and Amanda (great interactions) was top-notch. Can not wait to go back with my wife many times. Thank you Brooklyn and the Butcher.

Just ate here and had the best steak of my life! Sirloin with blue cheese butter! Our waitress, Tiffany, was lovely. She heard my table debating about dessert and ultimately deciding against it. To my absolute delight, she brought us out a complimentary plate of chocolate covered strawberries! Go here for phenomenal food, awesome service, and beautiful atmosphere.

We celebrated my retirement at Brooklyn and The Butcher, and everything was absolutely fabulous (as always)! Our entire meal was delicious and cooked to perfection, and the service was outstanding. As an added touch, there was a card with a nice note wishing me a happy retirement, and at the end of meal, we were brought complimentary chocolate covered strawberries - just lovely.
